Silver Competitive League Week 1 Recap
The first week of the Silver Competitive League featured three exciting streamed matches: Crusaders of War vs Prestige Worldwide, Tristate Warriors vs Do You Even Rift and Renegade Minion Gaming vs Pink Dinosaur Club. The week brought us exciting matches with close teamfights and flashy plays as every team looked to start the season off on the right foot.
The first game of the Silver Competitive League featured a showdown between Prestige Worldwide and Crusaders of War. The game started off with CoW’s midlaner pistolwip399 having connection problems leading to his Fizz missing out on three minutes worth of experience and gold. This gave PW’s Mobius Stripper a heavy farm and level advantage as Lulu in a lane that Lulu traditionally has an edge. The first kill of the game came when CoW’s toplaner Crizmuh got a solo kill as Fiora versus PW’s undeadultimatum’s Jax due to an ignite advantage. The kill was poor judgment by undeadultimatum who should’ve played passively considering he had taken teleport as opposed to an aggressive summoner spell like ignite. This allowed Fiora to draw a lot of splitpush pressure throughout the midgame as she could easily 2v1. Shortly after, PW respond with two kills at botlane with both Tristana and Morgana hitting level 6 and setting up an easy gank for PW’s jungler Guster Posey on Lee Sin. This lead to the first dragon of the game for PW, which they had good control of throughout the game. Despite drawing pressure and even getting an inhibitor turret top, CoW could not handle PW’s AD Carry Space Dandiest on Tristana who had built a really big advantage over Corki. PW would continue to pick up teamfight wins and Jax began to outscale Fiora in the solo lane. A midgame teamfight win for PW lead to a free baron followed by inhibitor which pretty much lead to a win for the squad at 39 minutes of play. Good objective control throughout the game by PW allowed them to snowball advantages in the mid and bot lanes to a victory. CoW picked a midgame team which just got outscaled by the lategame of Tristana and even Jax who was able to 1v1 his lane opponent who he was shutdown by earlier. Good overall teamplay by Prestige Worldwide who start off with a win on the season.
The second game of the Silver Competitive League proved to be just as explosive as the first, with Do You Even Rift's GoodShepherd and ChodeChang turning around a midlane towerdive from Tri-state Warriors' McSpankins for first blood at only six minutes into the match. The match showed no signs of slowing down as kills began to be traded across the entire map. Tri-state Warrior's jungler TylerParcells and midlaner McSpankins made very early movements around the map. TylerParcells in particular caused many headaches for Do You Even Rift, as his Evelynn set the pace for the early game. Two separate, sucessful ganks on Do You Even Rift's top and bottom lanes allowed the Tri-State Warriors to translate their early map pressure into an early gold advantage over the opposing team. These engagements came down to the wire, with both midlaners managing to outplay enemy jungle ganks and escape alive. At the 14 minute mark, Tri-state Warrior's Smaypie attempted to force down the enemy top lane turret, which BadShepherd punished him for, taking him down and drawing jungle pressure. With TylerParcells' Evelynn showing in top lane, this gave Do You Even Rift the opportunity to gank bottom lane and take the first dragon of the game without the threat of Tri-state Warrior's jungler. Throughout the game such overextensions became common, as players would often stick around danger for just a few seconds too long. A heated exchange in the bottom lane at 17 minutes led to nearly all summoner spells being blown by all four players, Do You Even Rift's bot lane duo of beatmoralimprove and HootyBooty9kp sucessfully force the opposing Jinx to recall. However, it becomes clear that they were trying to push too hard, as HootyBooty9kp's Janna quickly fell once Tri-state Warrior's own bot lane duo returned to lane shortly afterwards. Tri-state Warrior found themselves over committing to destroying the mid outer turret and pay the price as both Tri-state Warrior's Riven and Yasuo died very early in what became a teamfight which went in Do You Even Rift's favor. Instead of full 5v5 teamfights, the action in the early to mid game was limited to smaller scale skirmishes where the Do You Even Rift's Wukong and Lux thrived. They were able to translate these personal advantages into team advantages once the two teams began to fight 5v5. By the time teamfights had started, which is what Tri-state Warriors were looking for with their AoE champion picks, Do You Even Rift simply had too much of a gold advantage at that point for the Tri-state Warriors to handle, leading to Do You Even Rift's second win in the Silver Competitive League. While Tri-state Warriors unfortunately face their first loss in the SCL, it should definitely be noted that this game was played with substitutes filling in for multiple missing players. Definitely keep an eye on this team, as their strength with their main roster will be looking to surprise everyone in Week 2.
The final game of last week's Silver Competitive League was an explosive match between Renegade Minion Gaming and Pink Dinosaur Club. The early levels was a game of inches, as both teams fought tooth and nail to secure an early lead. Renegade Minion Gaming's jungler St Hawkward secured first blood through a successful gank in the top lane, before soon getting ambushed afterwards by Pink Dinosaur Club's midlaner meakster. The game really started rolling after Renegade Minion Gaming turned around a gank from Pink Dinosaur Club in the bottom lane, Renegade Minion Gaming's toplaner LeShoe using his summoner teleport to assist. This allowed Renegade Minion Gaming to pick up three kills and the dragon, creating a gold gap between the two teams that would only increase as the game progressed. Despite losing their bottom outer turret thanks to a well timed gank from Pink Dinosaur Club's jungler Pwnapple, once again Renegade Minion Gaming managed to secure the second dragon of the game through a combination of long range poke and a very clever use of dragon aggro to soften Pink Dinosaur Club's health bars. Looking at Pink Dinosaur Club's team comp, they undeniably had less damage than their opposite numbers while also having few followup options for their Vi's ultimate. Thus when Pink Dinosaur Club fell behind, it became incredibly difficult for them to take down the higher damage champions of Renegade Minion Gaming, as even Assault and Battery wasn't enough to take down Renegade Minion Gaming's incredibly powerful Kog'Maw. After a couple of rough patches in which Renegade Minion Gaming picked fights while having a numbers disadvantage, they were still able to close out the game with an uncontested baron thanks to their huge vision denial.
The week ended with a clear distinction the brackets between the top and bottom teams. Prestige Worldwide, Renegade Minion Gaming and Do You Even Rift started off the season with 2-0 records while Crusaders of War, The Black Arrow and Asphyxia Gaming are winless and look to turn things around next week. Tristate Warrior and Pink Dinosaur Club end the week with 1-1 records and look to vault among the top next week with strong plays coming in from both teams. The Silver Competitive League will resume on Tuesday, August 5th.
